Hello! My name is Alice and I am currently in my final year at Bristol university, studying Modern Languages.
Languages have always been central to my everyday life. I grew up in a French-English speaking household and Spanish was always my favourite subject at school.
After leaving sixth form with an A* A-level grade in French and an A A-level grade in Spanish, I decided to take my language studies further and applied to Bristol University in 2017 to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Spanish. After four years, I will finally graduate this summer (2021).
As part of my studies, I was able to spend my third year of university abroad. I spent 5 months working for a French language training firm, (BTL Paris: https://www.btl.fr/), in their admin and planning department and four months studying at the University of Zaragoza, Spain. I thoroughly enjoyed my time abroad and would love to share my experiences with my students and offer my own perspective on the French and Spanish culture.
My previous teaching experience involves teaching French in a local primary school from 2015-2017 as part of my school extra-curricular activities. On a weekly basis, I prepared presentations on various different French topics to present to a class of around twenty students. With regards to tutoring, so far my experience has been very home-based. I tutored my younger brother to help him get through his GCSE's and I am currently teaching some of my university housemates Spanish in our spare time.
My classes will be lead in an organised but relaxed, informal environment, something that I consider important for growth of confidence. I think of myself as a good listener and I want my students to feel like they are able to express their difficulties to me, so that I can base my lessons on each individuals’ needs and provide the appropriate resources. My classes would be interactive and engaging. I would focus on all aspects of language learning: conversation, listening, reading, translation. Of course, if any student feels like they need extra help in any of these areas, I would make it the central point of our learning.
As for online-teaching, due to the coronavirus pandemic my own studies have been moved online meaning that I am very familiar with online learning and different softwares needed for it, and therefore I would use this as an advantage.
Furthermore, having completed GCSE’s and A-level's myself, I feel quite informed on exam boards. So, whether you are looking to improve your language abilities for school or a particular course, or you want to learn a new language for work or for fun, I would be very happy to help guide you in the right direction and share my love of languages!
