Experienced, patient and enthusiastic GCSE and A-level Maths tutor with an individualised approach to providing support for each student according to their specific needs. Currently available online only due to COVID-19.
With schools regularly having to move to online learning many students can benefit from some extra tuition to help stay on track with their core subjects. Boosting confidence and grades remains important even with the uncertainty surrounding examinations. I have received positive feedback regarding my ability to engage my pupils` and pass on my "infectious enthusiasm" for the subject. I have a first class degree in Mathematics from University of Bath which involved several education based modules and work placements. I have worked in teaching and tutoring roles in various settings since 2013.
I passionately believe everybody is capable of achieving in Mathematics given some patience, hard work and the right approach. Sometimes it is just a case of needing to see topics presented in a different way that takes into account a pupil`s learning style and I always adapt my approach based on what works best for the pupil.
I have been teaching in various capacities to different age groups since I was 18. I started by tutoring and working as a teaching assistant during my gap year (2014).
In first year of university I worked as an Outreach Tutor with children from disadvantaged backgrounds, in second year I tutored GCSE and A level students and in final year I worked as a seminar tutor and taught first year Mathematics students.
I now teach in a non-classroom environment: I am working as a sailing instructor and run a tuition yacht in Greece. This practical teaching experience has given me a particular insight into different approaches and methods to teaching practical and theoretical skills.
In order to achieve a 1st Class Hons degree in Mathematics from University of Bath I chose to specialize in Education. As well as the traditional statistics, applied and pure modules, I studied modules in Communicating Mathematics, Educational Psychology, Science Education in Theory and Science Education in Practice . Many of these had practical aspects in the form of teaching, providing extracurricular workshops and presenting at STEM fairs.
