I am an experienced BA level teacher, currently in the fourth year of my full scholarship PhD in History and Philosophy of Art.
I have taught all BA years these past 3 years as a Teaching Assistant. I am experienced in planning seminars and exercises, aiding students with academic writing, proofreading, as well as offering constructive written and one-to-one feedback. In 2018 I achieved my teacher training via PGCE, and became an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
I can tutor in History of Art and Philosophy, both of which I have a thorough background in. My specialisations are the 19th Century - Early 20th Century Western art, (History of) Photography, and Aesthetics.
In our first session, I aim to get to know you as a student and what your needs are. Together we plan future sessions to suitably meet your personal goals. I am always willing to discuss and adjust if any challenges arise, it is important to me that you are heard and mentored in the best possible way. I believe that teaching should take into account the individual: not one formula fits all learning. My key aim is to share my passion for the arts by supporting students to become confident critical learners and to develop their visual literacy skills. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!
I am an international PhD candidate in the UK, and love sharing my passion for the arts and philosophy! When I'm not researching, I enjoy analogue photography, visiting exhibitions, and petting my neighbourhood cats.
Brief academic background:
My thesis is an art philosophical investigation of the pose in both traditional visual arts and photography. This research is interdisciplinary, drawing on art historical cases and practice-based knowledge to support my philosophical arguments. I am interested in how posing functions, its impact on all present parties and the resulting artwork, the wider role of the body in art making, and also areas such as authorship, creativity, portraiture, objectification, and aesthetic experience.
I am an active member of the wider research community, and have successfully applied for grants to organise events - most recently receiving £4200 to create a Symposium. Sections of my thesis have been presented at various peer-reviewed conference talks. I currently have two articles under review by peer-reviewed journals.
I achieved my Master's Degree in History and Philosophy of Art with Distinction at the University of Kent. I received a 75 for my MA Dissertation, which was an interdisciplinary piece on the performative significance of life models in the context of professional art making. The MA programme offered an enriching mix of both History of Art and Aesthetics. I am therefore trained in both disciplines, which I further honed in my current Doctoral Studies (2017-2021).
