I have been teaching English and English Literature GCSE and A level/ IB for over 30 years with a strong record of recent successes. I am a former examiner and have stunning references from recent parents and students. 

I also specialise in less able students who may be experiencing a wide variety of learning difficulties or lack of confidence in the subject. I approach this by building their confidence and supporting them to reach their full academic potential.

About Me

My background is as a university academic and manager of student welfare needs but I have often tutored too. This combination of academic and welfare expertise allows me to be exceptionally flexible and holistic in my teaching approach..

I retired from a London university in 2011 and have been working as a tutor ever since. Obviously, since covid my online tutoring has really taken off with students from all over the world (especially China) as well as more local face to face students.

My qualifications:

BA in English Literature with Educational Studies (first class honours)

MA in American Literature and Theory

PGCE

PhD (thesis on Margaret Atwood and reader response theory)

In summer 2023, my Year 11 and IB students all achieved the grades that they were aiming for (with a number of students being rewarded with GCSE grade 9s for both Language and Literature).
 

This academic year (2023/4), I have a very limited number of lesson spaces for secondary students studying towards their GCSEs.  

I teach online or face to face at my home.
