I am currently in my final year of my PhD in Mathematics at Loughborough University. My project is in the analysis of hyperbolic partial differential equations. Prior to this I graduated from the University of Warwick with an MMath degree in 2018. I have completed STEP I (1), STEP II (3) and A-level Mathematics (A*), Further Mathematics (A*), Physics (A), Economics (A), Modern Greek (A) and Chemistry AS-level (A) at school, as well as 9 IGCSEs (5 A*s, 3 As, 1 B) providing me with a very diverse and multi-disciplinary background.
Currently working in Loughborough, however I am willing to travel to tutees, offer tuition at home or online.
Over the last 8 years I have worked with students helping them with university work in Mathematics. This accounts for more than 200 hours of combined teaching experience.
I have been teaching undergraduates at Loughborough University for the last three years, delivering tutorial sessions in the modules Complex Analysis, Analysis 3 and Computing and Numerical Methods. Below is some recent feedback I received from students:
"Really well explained and definitiely the best tutorials of the semester. Included extra information and explanations which wasn’t found in lectures or solutions! :)"
Currently participating in the ROTOR (Recognition of Teaching for Researchers) scheme to further develop my teaching practice and to assemble an application for the award of Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA).
In my final year at the University of Warwick I was the supervisor of a group of five first-year Mathematics students. My duties included marking their work and meeting twice a week to give them feedback and answer any questions from the lectures.
Throughout secondary school I was helping my friends out with their studies as I could provide them with an alternative way of learning and remembering things. This made me realise that in order to do well, you need to like what you are studying and this is what I aim to do with my students-make them like the topic by providing real-life applications of their knowledge! This ultimately translates to amazing exam results.
Through my tutoring experience I’ve learnt that each student has a unique learning profile and hence I tailor the lesson to the needs and capabilities of each individual. As a young tutor I can engage better with my students and this is reflected in my teaching methods. I use a combination of techniques (going through notes, worked examples, past paper questions, mini games etc) to address each topic, making each tutoring session as enjoyable as possible.
Since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic, I had to adapt my lessons to be delivered online. I use a combination of Microsoft Teams/Zoom, virtual whiteboards as well as detailed notes to facilitate learning. Each lesson is tailored to the needs of each student and adjusted according to their goals. This has received great feedback from tutees so far.
