Deepening mathematical understanding: from building foundational basics to guiding exceptional talent to truly flourish.

I am a highly motivated and capable mathematics graduate of the University of Cambridge and the University of Warwick working full-time as a maths tutor, teaching mostly A/AS Level, STEP, and MAT with some GCSE. I get along well with students using a friendly enthusiastic manner and patient guidance, allowing me to engage them in a subject that many (sadly) find difficult or tedious to deal with. I’ve had significant success helping students to see why this subject is exciting and beautiful as well as extremely useful. Passing a maths exam can be stressful and overwhelming at times. With my help a student can learn not just all the material they need, but also efficient, reliable and (most importantly) intuitive approaches to thinking about the topics/problems. Students often cite both my enthusiasm and clarity as having really benefited them. I really genuinely enjoy sharing the passion I have for maths with others, I have the best job in the world!

Additionally, if a student is looking to really excel to the highest level I also have extensive experience here. I have helped many students through challenging entrance exams, provided wider mathematical enrichments (e.g. mathematical history, computing theory, learning mathematics from around the world etc.), and even taught several child prodigies taking exams or going to university early. I’m very knowledgeable about a huge variety of advanced areas of mathematics, and will be able to have proper discussions far beyond the syllabus when children ask the deep philosophical questions that curious minds wonder about. I can put all of this into a broad mathematical context and get into proper depth about how mathematicians think and the meaning(s) of ideas, and the rich world of mathematics beyond rote memorisation at school.

Generally I’m flexible and time can be found on most days as this job is my sole focus. Let me know what times are good for you and I can see what fits in.

Hi Daniel. Thought I would let you know that STUDENT got a B in maths. He was only a few marks off an A and got 93 / 100 for C2 paper! So he has got into Nott Trent Uni to study civil engineering so that is good. Thanks for all your help with the maths. He has developed a real interest in Maths and can`t wait to be able to apply it at Uni. I know you have helped spark this interest and thanks for your thoroughness in preparing STUDENT for the exams. Hope you are enjoying the summer. PARENT

#3

[5 STAR] From our first online meeting, I felt confident that Daniel would be able to stretch my mathematical muscles and help me to realise my potential. He keeps me thinking hard throughout our sessions, going through questions with an intellectual rigour, that keeps me on my toes. He is very personable, with a dry sense of humour, which I enjoy. I have total confidence in his mathematical knowledge and ability, and appreciate the way he will go through questions, often giving hints to help me reach the right answer. He is never impatient. I enjoy it when he expands on concepts where he thinks it would be beneficial for problem solving. For example, providing rudimentary proofs for commonplace formulae that A'Level teaching omits to explain, or dipping into philosophical areas of maths that go beyond the 'right' or 'wrong'. I would highly recommend Daniel to any student considering the challenge of STEP.

[5 STAR] Daniel tutored my son for 5 sessions for A-Level Maths. We would have carried on had there not been timetabling issues our end. He is a brilliant tutor and very enthusiastic about his subject. Would definitely recommend. We hope to see Daniel again on the run up to the exams.

[5 STAR] Daniel has been helping Joe with his preparation for Cambridge STEP exam. Joe enjoys Maths and has found somebody in Daniel that shares this enjoyment and can help develop and encourage his curiosity for the subject. In Joe's words… Daniel is really friendly and has loads of cool maths tricks that help to solve problems. Thanks Daniel for all of your support.

[5 STAR] Daniel is a really good teacher! he is especially good at linking problems and questions I get stuck on with bigger ideas and concept henceforth making it easier and simpler to understand. I am able to take my questions to him and he rephrases them and explains them so that they feel much easier and do-able

[5 STAR] We first met Daniel when our eldest was studying for the FSMQ in year 11. She was struggling as this was only being taught for one hour a week at school. Her confidence had taken a knock as she received an E on her first paper. Daniel worked methodically and she found her ability improving early on. He not only helped her achieve an A in her final exam but just as importantly helped her regain her confidence. Last year, having always achieved well in maths, our middle daughter found she was struggling. Having previously described herself as being good at maths, we were troubled to hear her say she couldn’t do it. She was reluctant to have a tutor, she felt embarrassed. Daniel instantly put her at ease. Her school report had described her as almost at expected level and is now described at exceeding expected level. Daniel has never missed a session, is always punctual and has helped my girls at a crucial time in their schooling. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him and wish him well.

[5 STAR] My daughter has found his teaching style very helpful. He is able to explain things clearly and make up examples to help explanations. Daniel has been great for both GCSE and A level Maths.
