With a First Class Degree in Education and post-graduate diplomas, I am a hard-working and committed teacher of children in Key Stages 2. I am friendly, flexible and approachable with a good sense of humour.
I have been a class teacher for 18 years mainly working with children in Key Stage 2, although I have also taught from the Key Stage 3 curriculum for English and maths. I am now focusing on providing private tuition exclusively which allows me more time to devote to preparation of lessons. I have been a full-time tutor now for eleven years. A patient and caring professional, I have taught children with a range of special needs including learning difficulties, sensory impairments, cerebral palsy, dyslexia, dyspraxia, Aspergers Syndrome and also children on the autistic spectrum.
I have tutored for many years and my pupils have included asylum seeker children (who are now studying at university) a high achieving Year 9 pupil from a prestigious public school and children from Years 5 and 6 who needed help to meet, and exceed, age-related expectations in English and maths. I have vast experience of preparing children for the Year 6 National Curriculum tests, having worked with these since their inception in 1994. I am also passionate about meeting the needs of gifted and talented children, believing that all children should be challenged and encouraged to reach their potential.
I am an extremely conscientious practitioner and I set high standards for myself and for my pupils. During the first session, I will make a thorough and detailed assessment of your child`s abilities and needs before planning lessons which will ensure continuity and progression, and which are personalised to meet your child’s requirements. I frequently devise my own materials rather than use commercially produced resources which tend to offer a more generic "one-size-fits-all" approach. Following each lesson, I will email you a detailed report of the lesson, including information about your child’s performance and progress. I am happy to set homework if you wish and this will be designed to consolidate what has been covered within the lesson. Whilst I have high expectations of my tutees, I like my sessions to be relaxed and informal, and, as such, I seek to create a calm, nurturing and fun atmosphere within which your child will feel confident and enabled.

I am DBS checked.

I strongly recommend Dawn. Dawn has been teaching our daughter Maths for the past few months, and the increase in her confidence and enjoyment in maths has been amazing. Dawn has been able to quickly identify our daughter`s strengths, weaknesses and learning style and has tailored lessons accordingly. Dawn always provides feedback (spoken and written summaries) which has been so useful so we can better understand and support our daughter. The homework is also very well tailored too. Dawn is very professional and very knowledgeable in the curriculum requirements. She is such a good role model for our daughter and motivates her to do her best. We`re very lucky to have Dawn teach our little girl and highly recommend her.

I know you've finished working with Grace but just had to send you this! All of the hard work you put in with her over the summer is paying dividends! She has even been helping other children in the class with their maths work which is amazing!! Just can't thank you enough for your patience and wonderful teaching style. Grace really enjoyed working with you and is now building on those foundations that you put in place. Her times tables are coming on a treat. It's like something has just clicked this last couple of weeks!

Dawn is a wonderful educational asset for our 9 year old. She organised, prompt and gives an assessment and feedback both written and verbal after each lesson. My daughter was lacking in confidence with her Maths and already after just two lessons with Dawn she is putting her hand up at school to answer questions, she didn’t do this before. Dawn uses various teaching techniques so her lessons are planned around the individual and their needs. I have no hesitation in recommending Dawn for personal tutoring.

Dawn's input has improved my daughter's maths immensely and in return she has a lot more confidence and her school teacher reports that she is putting her hand up a lot more in class and getting the answer correct. The area she has really grasped is if she sees a question she knows what method to apply to get the answer required. Many thanks.

Dawn has helped both our sons immensely within a short space of time. Dawn has successfully picked up on their individual weaknesses and put strategies in place. Both boys have become a lot more confident and really look forward to their sessions with Dawn. We highly recommend Dawn for any tutoring that you may require for your child and really can't thank her enough!
