With a First Class Degree in Education and post-graduate diplomas, I am a hard-working and committed teacher of children in Key Stages 2. I am friendly, flexible and approachable with a good sense of humour.
I have been a class teacher for 18 years mainly working with children in Key Stage 2, although I have also taught from the Key Stage 3 curriculum for English and maths. I am now focusing on providing private tuition exclusively which allows me more time to devote to preparation of lessons. I have been a full-time tutor now for eleven years. A patient and caring professional, I have taught children with a range of special needs including learning difficulties, sensory impairments, cerebral palsy, dyslexia, dyspraxia, Aspergers Syndrome and also children on the autistic spectrum.
I have tutored for many years and my pupils have included asylum seeker children (who are now studying at university) a high achieving Year 9 pupil from a prestigious public school and children from Years 5 and 6 who needed help to meet, and exceed, age-related expectations in English and maths. I have vast experience of preparing children for the Year 6 National Curriculum tests, having worked with these since their inception in 1994. I am also passionate about meeting the needs of gifted and talented children, believing that all children should be challenged and encouraged to reach their potential.
I am an extremely conscientious practitioner and I set high standards for myself and for my pupils. During the first session, I will make a thorough and detailed assessment of your child`s abilities and needs before planning lessons which will ensure continuity and progression, and which are personalised to meet your child’s requirements. I frequently devise my own materials rather than use commercially produced resources which tend to offer a more generic "one-size-fits-all" approach. Following each lesson, I will email you a detailed report of the lesson, including information about your child’s performance and progress. I am happy to set homework if you wish and this will be designed to consolidate what has been covered within the lesson. Whilst I have high expectations of my tutees, I like my sessions to be relaxed and informal, and, as such, I seek to create a calm, nurturing and fun atmosphere within which your child will feel confident and enabled.
I am DBS checked.
I am married, I live in Bramhall, Stockport with my husband and four cats. I am a big animal lover and do voluntary work at an animal sanctuary. I also like to read and bake (when I find the time!)
