I am an experienced teacher and tutor of maths. I have supported a lot of young people and adults to achieve the grades they hope for and have built up many positive relationships with my students and their families. Through teaching from home I have picked up lots of strategies for teaching people online, which is my preferred method of tutoring at the moment. If you think I can help then I'd love to hear from you!
I have been a maths teacher for over 15 years, in both state and private secondary schools, 10 years of which were in a sixth form college. I have several years of tutoring experience at KS3, GCSE and A level (pure, stats, mechanics and decision maths).
I have also worked for many years as a maths A level examiner, and this gives me a unique insight into the best way to prepare for and take exams.
Recently, my experience of teaching online has increased 100-fold! Whilst I have continued my full time teaching job, teaching from home, I have been required to deliver online lessons to both individuals and whole classes. I have used different software packages, given seminars and presentations, provided individual support to those who have needed it and designed courses for groups of up to 70 students in one class.
Uppermost in my mind has been the need to keep students safe, so I have always made sure that this is a priority and adhered to codes of conduct that are safe for all users. I have kept learners engaged and involved in their learning and believe that interaction is key to providing a vibrant online learning experience. I have been able to keep in close contact with my students and their parents, communicating their needs and providing support so that they are able to continue to learn effectively.
I have prepared students for their end of year school exams and have also lead a department as we supported A level students in submitting grades for external assessment as well. Although the lockdown has been challenging for everyone in many different ways, it has also provided us with opportunities to learn and grow as individuals and this experience will prove invaluable as I move into online tutoring over the next few weeks and months.
For many years now, I have also been an examiner for two different examboards and our mode of assessment has been through online platforms. This has provided a strong basis for me upon which to build my online teaching and I feel confident that I will be able to support learners as they continue their journey, whether it be via online or face-to-face learning.
At the moment, I would like to restrict myself to online tutoring, due to the restrictions surrounding Covid - see my bio for more details about my online teaching experience.
I am able to tutor individuals or groups (at a reduced rate per person). I can do tutoring in the evenings, from 7.30pm onwards during the week and from 8pm onwards at the weekend.
I do ask for a minimum of 24 hours notice if you need to cancel. I charge 50% of the hourly rate if I receive less than 24 hours notice due to time that will have been spent in preparation for the tutoring session. However, I do understand that illness or emergencies crop up from time to time, so the first cancellation will not incur any fee.
