I have just finished my degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University (achieving a high 2.1). I have been tutoring for the past 5 years, which has enabled me to share my passion for the subjects in which I excel. I value the chance to help others through their academic studies, and find the process of teaching and development extremely rewarding. Aside from purely academic development, I appreciate the need to aid students on a more personal level, helping them to take ownership of their studies, develop autonomous learning capabilities and overcome exam stress. Throughout my time at school I played a number of sports (including county level rugby and cricket) and engaged in various outdoor pursuits. At university, I have held a variety of leadership positions in the college governing body and boxing club, whilst pursuing my passion for climbing. Having just finished university, I intend to become proficient in French and German, and take a course in coding.
As a private tutor, I supported a student for 3 years in her GCSE maths. After being predicted a 4 in year 10, the student achieved a 6 in the exam. During this period, I worked as a teaching assistant in year 10 classes for 2 years at my school, Cardinal Newman. I also gave talks to students in year 11, providing an introduction to economics and an outline of the A-level course. I have continued tutoring during my first 2 years at university. I have worked with 2 students teaching maths A-Level, one of whom moved from a C prediction in year 12 to achieve an A in the exam. I have also tutored one student for economics A-Level, who moved from a C prediction to achieve a B in the exam. I have also advised 5 students on Oxbridge applications for Philosophy, Politics and Economics and Economics and Management, offering tuition for the TSA exam and interview practise. The students entered the applications process with far more confidence and familiarity with the process, with 3 candidates successful in their application.
