My name is Jemma and I have been a secondary French teacher for 15 years and a tutor for 6 years. I have a proven track record of success and I am confident I can support students of any ability from Key Stage 3 up to A-Level and Adult. I love my subject and try to make teaching engaging and meaningful. My teaching style is very engaging and interactive and I adapt my teaching to get the very best out of students. All of my tutees who took their exam in summer 2019 increased their overall grade by at least one grade.

About Me

My professional experience as a teacher includes 13 years at an outstanding Leicestershire school where I worked with students with varying abilities and diverse Through my tutoring I have also worked with students aiming for higher level studies at Oxford and Cambridge Universities. 

At present I work for a distance learning provider as a subject tutor which has enabled me to develop my skills using e-learning platforms and require me to adapt my teaching to meet the needs of students with varying ages and needs.

I have a number of tutees already, mostly GCSE and A level, working with me online, through Zoom or Skype , in the evenings after school and daytime. I have some remaing slots available at the moment. Please feel free to call me and discuss your requirements. I do not ask for any contractual commitments, so you can have a trial session and get a feel for the way we work together, before deciding, and you can cancel your sessions at any time. Sometimes just a short intervention can help to get a student back on track, if they have fallen behind for some reason, but at other times a longer period of support may be required. I can support your son or daughter all the way up to their summer exams if you require it. I am happy to work as a small group of two or three (in the same year group) to keep costs down.

I specialise in French and have been mainly responsible for GCSE and A level teaching. I am able to help students with set texts and films, such as L`étranger, un sac de billes, Entre les murs and l`auberge espagnole, No et moi, la Haine and un secret, they are studying and I can provide extra guidance and help with this aspect of the new A Level course. I have a detailed knowledge of exam criteria for a range of exam boards ( AQA, Edexcel and Cambridge International examinations) and I can offer personalised tutoring for all aspects of the course. I have experience of marking for one of the major exam boards therefore I can offer help to improve exam technique.

I can also provide intensive holiday revision sessions to boost exam success focusing on exam technique and strategies for different question types.

Over the past year I have worked with students who are looking to move to France or have language requirements for their job. I am also familiar with IGCSE and DELF qualifications.

I have 6 years experience of teaching adult education and I have many adult beginners who I teach. I have developed a course that concentrates on communication and builds confidence.
