As well as being a husband, and dad to 4 amazing young people, including a midwife, student medic and Student Support Worker, I am also a keen dog lover, and am blessed to be owned by 4 gorgeous dogs. Ask me about them, and I`ll keep going for ages!

I`m a huge music fan, and would tentatively call myself a metalhead (but I`m very much housetrained, I promise). However, I am also just as comfortable listening to some of the less poppy current sounds, or some of the modern composers such as Jean-Michel Jarre or Mike Oldfield.

When I can, I try to develop new skills. During the past year I have taught myself the Rubik`s Cube, and now have a collection of around 40 different cube based puzzles - with only one that I`ve not managed to solve! If anyone can help me complete my elite skewb, I will reward you with a free tutoring session!

Overall, I try to be a laid back, chilled person, and through tutoring, I get to share my love of the subject with others, hopefully passing on a bit of it as we learn together. I had a terrible maths teacher at school, and as a result, I learned to become much more reflective and empathetic. Let`s work together and make maths happen!

About Me

I graduated from Westminster College, Oxford, in 1997 as a primary teacher specialising in Maths and RE. After 9 years, I felt that I wanted more of a personal challenge, so, after spending a short time in supply teaching, I began working in secondary as a maths teacher. Since then, I`ve worked with all ages and abilities, and have enjoyed success right from a year 7 nurture group up to year 11 set 1 children. I think that one of the things that makes me a little different to some secondary teachers, is that through my primary experience, I developed a much more pastoral and caring approach to my work.

In 2019 I started working as an Edexcel examiner. This is, I believe, not only a great privilege to be at the cutting edge of marking year 11 papers, but also provides a deeper insight into what exactly the exam boards are looking for, which I can then pass on to my tutees... after all, the final exams are a game - if you can work out how to play it, the possibilities are endless!
