Hello

I am Katie Speechley and I  am lucky enough to have one of the best jobs in the world teaching Primary age children.

I live near to Northampton and have been teaching since 1990.

I have taught Primary school children for the last 30 years and never tire of seeing that 'light bulb' moment when someone realises they can do something and watch them develop a love of learning and become more confident.  I happily teach all subjects across the Primary school curriculum but my real passion is literacy. I have been teacher, trainer and Assistant Head in local schools across that time.

I have led 'catch up' programs in school for KS2 pupils who learnt to love reading and writing through practical, fun activities.  I have taught whole classes, small groups, 1:1, trained adults, am qualified and experienced in teaching English as a second language and have always made good relationships with my pupils based on respect and trust.

The key is to make learning relevant and fun whilst having the experience to find which concepts are preventing someone from moving forward.

I can't wait to help your child with their reading, writing and phonics skills!

About Me

I graduated with a BEd (Hons) in 1990 and have taught Primary school children ever since.  I  believe passionately that the key to success for everyone is an ability to read and write.  Literacy has become my specialism as I led the subject across the school.

I have taught all year groups from 4-11 years old and believe that fun, practical activities help children to love learning and so fulfil their potential.  As Assistant Head and Literacy Lead across schools I have introduced this ethos to positive effect.

Seven of those 30 years were most happily spent helping KS2 children who were struggling, to catch up and learn to love literacy, going on to becoming successful and enthusiastic learners. The key is to make it relevant and fun! I have also worked closely with children who are new to English and are developing their use of the language, both spoken and written.

I have worked with children from 4-11 years, always using books, art, outdoor activities - anything which catches the child's interest to develop their skills and love of reading and writing!

As a Talking Partners trainer I have helped staff across the Northampton develop good spoken language with children.

After 30 years experience I still love seeing a child develop a love of reading and writing and look forward to working with more children both individually and in small groups .
