Experienced tutor in philosophy. I have many years of experience tutoring a number of subjects, but have always found philosophy most interesting to teach, and it is for that reason my major focus.

My approach is to help you to build up a framework, one that works especially well for you, through which to understand philosophical ideas and concepts. I have found that the best way of doing this is by first discovering where any problems lie, then helping you to construct your own network of answers to these problems by asking the right kinds of questions. This method I owe largely to Socrates, who worked out two and half thousand years ago that it worked pretty well.

I received my BA in philosophy from the University of Cambridge in 2017, have recently finished work on an MPhil degree in philosophy at the University of Warwick, and will be starting a PhD in philosophy at University College London in 2021.

"Over recent years, Lucas has tutored me in Philosophy and Ethics over a very academically challenging four-year period. We began with GCSE’s and ran through to the end of A-Levels. I enjoyed Philosophy at school but found many of its concepts quite challenging. However, for every minute I was able to see Lucas, my understanding of given topic increased exponentially. He has a wonderful way of creating an engaging, constructive and free-flowing discussion – usually one in which I was began disinterested but ended up totally focused and engaged. It was this ability to help me see a given topic in a new light, one different to that of my school teachers, that quickly saw me buzzing with intrigue – subsequently, due to the change in my attitude – the learning followed suit. He has most definitely helped me achieve the most important tool for learning, giving me a structured approach to make learning interesting and engaging. Lucas had an active hand in helping me attain good grades at GCSE with an A grade at A-Level. This in turn has allowed me to attend a great university actually reading Philosophy (as part of a joint honours degree) and is strongly indicative of the point made earlier; he makes the subject interesting! In short, for these reasons, in addition to his warm and friendly personality, I would strongly recommend Lucas as a private tutor."
