I am a very experienced theatre practitioner, coach and tutor of over 25 years. I am highly motivated to identify potential and bring out the best in people and to facilitate the success of any enterprise. My work experience is extremely varied covering: teaching, training, mentoring, coaching, administration, project management and have worked with all age groups ranging from age 6 to those in retirement, from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. I have worked in in UK, Europe, Scandinavia, USA, Australia and Canada. I am fluent in German, having taught and produced drama in German whilst living in Austria. I possess strong values of authenticity, fairness and appropriateness. I have strong imaginative abilities, am intuitive, a good problem solver and a desire to create a healthy and inspiring environment wherever I operate, and I use humour and empathy to communicate. I have developed strong insight into and understanding of people. I flourish when able to communicate creatively, verbally and in writing. I identify the connections and dynamics of a situation, group or person, and work efficiently and resourcefully. I am a strong coordinator and have leadership skills in directing. I am very versatile, adaptable and reliable and it is important to me to treat everyone I work with or serve, with respect and equity.
I run my own theatre school part time and teach drama, speech, voice, and performance arts for Trinity College exams (NVQ level 3-6 - up to degree level). I have taught extensively in Lamda exams and have run courses and workshops since my graduation in 1993 and I have taught GCSE and A'level drama and german. I also have a background in dance and song which is useful for any drama students with experience in teaching both. In my early teaching years I taught at a number of Stagecoach schools and Pauline Quirk Academy, Oxford Royale Academy as well as youth theatre schools in Vienna when I was based there for 5 years. At least half of my teaching experience is one-one coaching but I have also taught larger groups. In my inspections I have received almost exclusively Grade 1s and I can provide written Ofqual quotes on my work, as necessary.
Level 2 - 4 Drama (acting, voice and theatre) and German (language, literature).
My approach is to bring out the best in the individuals - helping them to identify strengths that they can work on and weaknesses that they can overcome in a non-judgmental, relaxed but at the same time disciplined environment. We have a lot of fun and balance of exercises to extend understanding of the skills of developing of character, identity, text, movement and voice as well as working on specific pieces and learning tips and positive critique to apply to skill development. I am also able to teach practitioners and the variety of methodologies in drama for comparison or academic work. My influences are: Spolin, Hagen, Stanislavski, Shurtleff, Boal and Grotowski.
As a fluent German speaker I particularly want to give the student confidence in speaking and writing. I do this in a very relaxed environment, as this is the best way for a student to learn and not feel self-conscious. We discuss all sorts of topics but can focus on specifics as needed. I have a very good, clear understanding of grammar and can communicate this so that it makes sense and is quite easy to remember.
