Hi, my name is Mia Waters and I am a 19 year old student at the University of Glasgow studying Business and Politics. I have always had a knack for languages as I was born to a Spanish mother and British father, allowing me to be native in two languages. Ever since I was young I loved to read and was fascinated by the English language and English Literature, which is why I chose it for IB and continued with it in my first year of University. Because of this I believe I could teach IB Literature as I studied it at University.  I would love to convey my knowledge and passion for these subjects on to young students like myself.

About Me

When I was doing IB, I had an amazing teacher who helped me discover my enthusiasm for English Language and Literature by helping me understand the novels we read and providing me with the liberty to choose texts and projects to work on. This is what allowed me to get a 6 out of 7 in the subject and a 7 out of 7 in Spanish B. As a teacher, I would like to do the same by providing students with the tools to develop their own ideas on the novels which we read and bringing their own originality to them, because I believe that is the key to ensuring they are motivated.

I have had experience tutoring both English and Spanish to intermediate learners and two IB students in English Literature and Spanish B. So far my students have had good results, but I would like to improve my teaching skills by focusing more specifically on the exam that the student is taking to ensure they receive a good grade. Having said this, I will always allow the student to have a say in how they would like the tutoring sessions to work and the specific areas they believe they need to work on. I also prefer to focus on the practical aspects rather than theoretical ones, because I believe that is where I can provide the most help. By focusing on the practice, I can help students develop essential skills such as writing and analyzing novels or poems.

I have extensive knowledge on how the IB works and how to study for it as I took it myself and studied hard because I needed a good grade to come and study at the University of Glasgow. Furthermore, I believe my native skills will allow me to teach students who are learning English or Spanish.

I am passionate about what I do and hope to be of great help to all my students, by enabling them to achieve a good grade and hopefully a newfound interest in my subject!
