My Background

I have been tutoring for around five years but come from a business background, my initial roles being in mathematical algorithm development in the software industry.

After a successful freelance IT career running my own company, I changed direction and have been tutoring on a part time basis since. I have a university degree in pure mathematics From Warwick University (Russell Group) and I only teach this subject.

If you would like a short trial online lesson I can do this foc or if you would like to discuss further please let me know. All preparation and homework marking is included in the hourly rate. I can also provide equipment (graphics tablet) on a loan basis to assist with online tutoring.

In any case all the best and thanks for reading this.

Services

Most of the work I do is at GCSE, KS4, level and with a variety of students – from those struggling with passing at 4/5 at Foundation level to more able students at the top end of Higher level. I also have a lot of experience with other KS3 years and KS2 from Year 5. I have also coached at University foundation level for students taking subjects other than maths. I undertake private tutoring in the local area, online  and voluntary tutoring for under privileged children in inner city schools. I like to take on just a few students at any one time to ensure that I can give them the focus that they deserve and maintain my activities as a pleasure rather than a job!

My Approach

My approach with each student is bespoke, we can start off informally going through past papers or text book questions to identify weaknesses which need to be addressed or pick up on specific points on which the student wishes to focus, or indeed feedback from the school. I like to get to know the student and identify what is holding them back - normally a combination of confidence and/or interest in the subject and address these softer issues alongside the teaching of mathematical technique. I have a passion for the subject which I hope to pass on to the student but I also recognise that for some students the main focus is on passing the exam and the necessary coaching to do this.
