I graduated from University of Nottingham - with a 2:1 in joint honours English and American Studies. The English component of my degree explored, both, English Literature and Language – offering an opportunity to study both aspects of English in great depth.
My degree was instrumental in furthering my knowledge of the subject, however my experiences in school, working as a TA and pastoral support, have developed my understanding of exceptional quality education.
In November 2019 I was offered a place on the Teach First graduate scheme, to study at UCL for a PGDE (Professional Graduate Diploma in Education). Unfortunately, COVID-19 prevented my relocation and therefore I deferred my entry on the training programme until June 2021.
Since my deferral, Teach First have adapted their programme to create an Academic Mentor scheme. The programme aims to close the attainment that grew from lockdown, and to support those students who felt their educated was impacted by the lockdown measures.
I currently work at an Ofsted 'good' school, as an Academic Mentor – supporting KS3 and KS4 students to help them reach their academic goals.
