I’m a graduate mathematician from Christ's College, University of Cambridge, and am currently tutoring full-time. I have a love of learning maths (which I'm sure you guessed) but also a love of teaching and seeing the fruits of showing others what joy there is to be found in maths, how even if they hate it now, there will be something in it they can enjoy. I’ve seen how many people have been wronged by maths, and maths teachers, and hope to not make the same mistakes they did.
The one thing I value most for every student, is a focus on personal growth over grades; limiting oneself to “getting an A*” leads to putting memorising facts above fundamental understanding, and every student, in my opinion, is better off aiming for the best they can, rather than any specific level.
I am a private tutor with over 4000 hours of teaching experience with students from GCSE, iGCSE or IB MYP to STEP tutoring and first year university support. All of my students so far have accomplished or exceeded their goals.
My teaching philosophy is built on the fact that no two students are the same. Each individual has different goals, learning styles and responsibilities, and I believe lesson plans need to be informed by this. Whether you know what you want to achieve, or just want a guiding hand to push you further, I hope I can help.
The best way to learn though is through doing, and being challenged, which is how most lessons will be structured. I want you to be thinking for yourself, to face hard problems now to find it easy in the future. These might be past paper questions, your own problems, or what I use to try to push you, it only depends on how you learn best.
What do you teach?
What ages of students will you take?
Most of my students are aged 15-18, but please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you’re outside this range. Whether you just want or need an extra push in maths from somewhere, or you’re a bored younger student or adult learner, I’d love to hear from you, and see if I could help.
What times do you teach?
I’m quite flexible, and am happy to teach any time between 8am-9pm, including holidays and weekends. My most free times are weekday mornings and afternoons.
How will lesson be arranged?
I use Zoom for the majority of my lessons, however I’m happy to use other services such as Discord, Skype, etc if you’re more comfortable with that.
If you are hesitant to try online tutoring, I urge you to give it a go before concluding that it’s not as good as in person. There are so many advantages and conveniences to digital tutoring that are difficult to articulate, so I hope that after a trial session, you’ll agree it’s as good or better.
