Hello, I'm a new graduate from Exeter university and am available to tutor English for GCSE and A-level. I hold a first-class degree in English Literature as well as A-level and GCSE qualifications. My specialities are in Shakespeare, Modernism and the Romantics, but I will be happy to brush up on whatever you're currently studying.
If you have coursework or extended projects I won’t do your research for you, but I will show you the best methods for research - up to a ‘university-level’ standard. We can also discuss time management and working to deadlines; I was certified by HamiltonMercer training on planning and time management. If your focus is on exams we can work on your revision strategies and I can show the formula I used to plan my answers in under five minutes.
Please don’t feel discouraged if you have dyslexia or a similar learning difference; I’m dyspraxic myself and we can tailor the lessons to suit your learning style. I know English isn’t everyone’s favourite subject, but I promise you it doesn’t need to be a headache. I want to help you find the confidence that you are fully capable and that nothing will hold you back from achieving your goal.
Rory.
I attended secondary school and sixth form at Halliford School. Afterwards I studied at University of Exeter and graduated with a first in 2020. English literature remains my favourite subject due to its huge variety; while at Exeter I wrote essays on 'Vegetarian Ethics', 'Medieval sources in Tolkien' and 'The Sublime in Mary Shelley'. I remember what it's like to feel completely alienated by a subject (I'm practically innumerate) so I have a lot of time for people who disagree with the 'one size fits all' approach found in schools.
