Hello! My name is Sean and I am a qualified teacher with a PGCE in Secondary English from Newcastle University, as well as a First Class Honours degree and a Masters in English Literature. I have taught at both primary and secondary level preparing students for standardised testing, most recently in Key Stage 2. I am a friendly, enthusiastic and patient tutor that strongly believes that students thrive when they are encouraged and properly supported.
Although I am new to the Tutordirect platform, I have a broad range of experience within the education sector, having worked in both the secondary setting as an English teacher (years 7-11) as well the primary setting, predominantly within Key Stage 2. As such, I have extensive experience in helping students prepare for standardised testing at both levels and specialise in GCSE Literature and Language and Key Stage 2 English and Maths. Previous responsibilities have included, but were not limited to: the development of schemes of work in accordance with both the National Curriculum and specific department teaching and learning objectives; preparing students for standardised testing (e.g. GCSE examinations); providing students with useful feedback through assessment and marking; participating in meetings with parents to discuss student progress and develop individualised study plans, and the preparation and delivery of lessons. I have also had extensive experience working with a range of children with special educational needs and have gained particular praise for my calm manner in the classroom and an ability to form strong, individual relationships with the students I have taught. As well as this, I am an experienced teacher of English as a second language, having lived and taught in Korea between April 2016 - April 2017.
