During my PGCE year at UCL, Institute of Education, I was able to learn the pedagogy and the practical skills that have made me into the attentive and thoughtful teacher I am today. I have a deeper understanding in how to reflect upon my teaching and impact my students through great planning, reflection and assessment. Building those relationships with my students while on placement and becoming a teacher who is flexible in the classroom means that I was able to be helpful to my students as well as allow myself space to grow as a teacher. Upon completing my PGCE I began working as a teacher, and the experiences that I gained support me in continuing to teach and adapt to new methods and ideas of teaching and learning.
My degree in Creative Writing and English Literature allowed me to pursue a career in teaching English and continue to study, literature and the craft of writing. I have always been interested in reading and writing, the skills that I have developed have allowed me to have a better appreciation for different art forms and become experienced in the analytical aspects of social and cultural studies. Throughout my degree I was able to further develop strong holds in both academic writing and creative writing, I have the experience to support learners in their writing endeavours and learning how to effectively analyse literature and essay write.
