Qualifications

  • QTS - Primary with Literacy Specialism Verified

    2020

During my PGCE year at UCL, Institute of Education, I was able to learn the pedagogy and the practical skills that have made me into the attentive and thoughtful teacher I am today. I have a deeper understanding in how to reflect upon my teaching and impact my students through great planning, reflection and assessment. Building those relationships with my students while on placement and becoming a teacher who is flexible in the classroom means that I was able to be helpful to my students as well as allow myself space to grow as a teacher. Upon completing my PGCE I began working as a teacher, and the experiences that I gained support me in continuing to teach and adapt to new methods and ideas of teaching and learning.

  • Bachelors - Creative Writing and English Literature Verified

My degree in Creative Writing and English Literature allowed me to pursue a career in teaching English and continue to study, literature and the craft of writing. I have always been interested in reading and writing, the skills that I have developed have allowed me to have a better appreciation for different art forms and become experienced in the analytical aspects of social and cultural studies. Throughout my degree I was able to further develop strong holds in both academic writing and creative writing, I have the experience to support learners in their writing endeavours and learning how to effectively analyse literature and essay write.

'Shamira supported me through developing on the work that I was doing with my class in Year 10 until I was in Year 11, it made a massive difference. I went from being unable to understand how to write an essay properly to writing them much more easily during my exam. She helped me analyse texts and see different language choices and literary techniques much more easily, she is very easy going but challenged me a lot. She was honest and got me to see what I needed to do to improve my grades.'

'My son was struggling with reading and needed a lot of help to do well in his phonics. He has behavioural problems and struggles with learning and concentration. The tutor was a teacher and this helped my son behave better, lessons were fun and interactive. My son is more confident in reading and writing and likes to go to school to show what he read and learn.'
