I am an experienced biology teacher, tutor and examiner. 

I currently teach the AQA biology GCSE and A-level specifications and have also tutored students studying both OCR and Edexcel courses. 

I understand the difficulties students face in translating their knowledge into marks in exams so my focus is on demystifying the mark schemes to allow all students to reach their full potential. 

I think it is important for each student to assess whether a tutor is the right fit for them and their learning style, so a free trial session will always be offered to any prospective tutees. 

About Me

I have seven years teaching experience and have spent the last six years working at a selective independent school in the West Midlands. 

I have examined for AQA over the last four years, marking both A-level and GCSE papers. Having marked Paper 3 of the A-level, I specialise in helping students achieve the highest score in their 25 mark essay. 

My teaching and tutoring practice is based on developing two fundamental skills: 

- Accurate factual recall: both the GCSE and A-level specifications are incredibly content heavy and this information must be learned off by heart to give students the best chance at achieving a grade which matches their potential. 

- Exam technique: many of the questions asked in the exam papers, for both GCSE and A-level, require a level of application of knowledge. Through careful practice of past paper questions, learning how to read the question and deciphering the 'hints' you can disover in the question stem, students can quickly improve the quality of their responses, inevitably leading to more marks in their exams. 

I truly believe that every student can live up to their potential and that some may not even be aware of just how great that potential may be. With the right coaching, simple explanations of difficult concepts and repetition, all my students go on to achieve a grade of which they can be incredibly proud. 

Services

I offer one-to-one tuiton in blocks of 60 minutes, 90 minutes or two hours. 

I am available (allowing for the occasional evening events at school) every weekday from 5pm onwards. I am also availble on Saturday mornings. 

Throughout the covid-19 pandemic I moved my tutoring sessions online via Zoom but am happy to conduct in-person tutoring, either at my house (Hatton) or at the student's home.
